Research Experience for Teachers

We have the opportunity to provide a research experience for teachers. This exciting summer program is for 7-12 grade science teachers to participate in real-world science and cutting-edge plant genomics research on cotton. This opportunity provides teachers with a background and first-hand experience in the design, methods, and analysis of research associated with molecular biology, biotechnology, bioinformatics, evolution, and genomics that they can take back to share with and inspire their students. Teachers will be instructed on the theory and techniques associated with the research, and read relevant scientific literature.

Teachers will be mentored on a research project for approximately 30-40 hours per week. Teachers will connect current pedagogy and the summer research experience to develop classroom materials, curriculum and online learning tools. Stipend is $5,000 for five weeks and an allowance to incorporate science experience into classroom and curriculum.Tentative program dates for 2016 are May 31 — July 1. Although teachers are expected to attend the full 5 weeks, there is some flexibility in dates. If possible we will coordinate the best dates among participants.

To apply for the 2016 program please fill out an application before March 1. Applicants will be notified of acceptance to participate by March 15. Link to application:
